A brief history of Merlin
IT
In 1999 Merlin IT was established in response to the demand by local small businesses and
home users who did not have reliable, high quality PC support available when their
computers developed complications.
Our proprietor was a Technical Manager and Senior Engineer with 12 years experience in IBM
and compatible PC's, peripherals, networks and software from leading manufacturers. Whilst
undertaking work for local small businesses and domestic users, he recognised a high
percentage of his work involved correcting major problems that had been caused by previous
maintenance companies, who had supplied untrained and inexperienced engineers. He was
seeing at first hand the damage and distress caused by their irresponsible and
unscrupulous workmanship.
Merlin IT was formed in response to give everyone access to high quality, low cost onsite
hardware and software support 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
Merlin IT has continued to grow and has encompassed a large range of computer services in
response to the needs of our clients and has now become the preferred computer services
provider by many businesses and domestic users.
We believe Merlin IT's success is simple. We listen to our customers and never compromise
on service.
About our name
A common question we get asked is what does the bird in our logo have to do with our name
Merlin IT.
The bird in our logo is in fact a Merlin (Falco columbarius), which is the smallest
falcon, found in Europe. The Merlin is commonly found on the moors and fells of Scotland,
northern England and Wales.
The male which is smaller then the female, has an attractive slate-grey back and wings and
a rusty speckled chest whilst the female is more brown in colour.
It's diet mainly consists of small birds like chaffinches and tits, which are caught in
flight. Unfortunately due to the use of pesticides and the destruction of it's natural
habitat they are now rapidly in decline.
